Sr. Rookie Tigers win Father’s Day AA tournament in Aurora

The Gauvreau & Associates Sr. Rookie Peterborough Tigers won the Father’s Day AA tournament held in Aurora over the weekend.  The Tigers defeated Newmarket, Barrie, Aurora-King and Markham by a combined score of  62 - 21 to win the championship. 

 The Tigers began the tournament on Saturday with stellar defense resulting in a 13-0 victory over Newmarket.  James-Vatcher Norman led with 3 runs scored.  Casey Richardson and Ian Neck had 2 runs and singles were scored by Alex Kuypers, Declan Ready, Travis Heffernan, Grayden Taylor, Blake Moncrief and Jack Gauvreau. Moncrief was named MVP.  After the game, severe weather washed out the remaining Saturday games.

On Sunday, the Tigers played their first game against Barrie and triumphed with a 16-9 victory.  Hunter Young and Vatcher-Norman had 3 runs each.  Kuypers and Kyle Duda scored 2 runs each.  Singles were scored by Jag Turner, Aiden Stabler, Ready, Richardson, Gauvreau and Neck.   Turner was named MVP.  After a 30 minute break, the Tigers took the field to play the hometown Aurora-King Jays.  The Tigers scored 4 in the top of the first and cruised to an 18-7 victory.  Turner cranked a bases loaded triple and scored 4 runs and Young scored 3 times to lead the team.  Vatcher-Norman and Kuypers scored twice.  Duda, Stabler, Richardson, Heffernan, Taylor, Gauvreau and Neck rounded out the scoring with single runs.  Young was MVP. 

Following a 1 hour break, the Tigers resumed their march to the championship playing the Markham Mariners.  The Tigers scored 5 runs in the top of the first and never looked back.  With the score 8-5 for the Tigers and the Mariners threatening to close the gap, the middle infield turned a key double play to secure the momentum and solidify the victory as the boys outscored the Mariners 7-0 after that play.  Vatcher-Norman and Young scored 3 times each.  Kupyers, Turner and Duda had 2 runs each.  Stabler, Richardson and Ready scored once.  Kuypers was MVP. 

 Congratulations to the players for a solid team effort.  The team never trailed in the tournament and is now 14-0 for the season.
