Peterborough Tigers 15U Elite Baseball Team are EOBA “AAA” Champions

The Peterborough Tigers 15U Elite baseball team are the EOBA “AAA” champions for the 2023 season,
defeating Whitby in the playdowns. Both Peterborough and Whitby will represent the EOBA at the
Provincials over the Labour Day Weekend.
Peterborough began the playdowns by defeating Pickering Prospects 9-3. The Tigers had 7 hits led by
Gus Reid and Rylan McCullough with 2 each. McCullough had 3 RBI. Reid, Noah Nowak and Alex
Kuypers scored 2 runs each. Nowak pitched 6 strong innings with 7 strikeouts. Jacob Penny shut the
door with 1 inning of solid relief.
The Tigers then played Whitby on Saturday morning, winning by a score of 7-4 in a close game. The
Tigers had 10 hits including Ryland Cunningham with a 3 for 4 day and 2 doubles. Kuypers also hit a long
double. Casey Richardson had the big hit with a pinch hit, 2-out, 2-run single to snap a 4-4 tie and the
Tigers never looked back. Kyle Duda had 2 hits and was solid behind the plate. Caleb Dalton started and
pitched 4 1/3 innings with 7 strikeouts. Ian Neck relieved and threw 2 2/3 innings of scoreless ball with 3
key strikeouts to preserve the win.
The Tigers matched up with Whitby again after Whitby came back to walk off Pickering in a close game
and advance to the finals. However, Whitby was no match for the pitching of Gus Reid who threw a
dominant, complete game 3-hit shutout with 12 strikeouts. Nowak had 3 hits to pace the attack. Reid
doubled and had 2 RBI. Alex McMann scored a run, had an RBI and stolen base. Aiden Stabler stroked
a single and RBI. Hunter Young scored a run in the win. Richardson had an RBI.
The Tigers are an impressive 41-10-1 on the season. Next weekend they will play in the EBLO
championships and wrap their season up on Labour Day at the Provincials in Leaside. Go Tigers Go!!!
